SFA-5.2/SFA-5.2M: Specification for Carbon and Low-Alloy Steel Rods for Oxy fuel-Gas Welding

This specification includes carbon and low-alloy steel filler metal used for oxyfuel- gas welding (OFW). The letter “R” in the designation stands for rod. Filler metal made to the requirements of this specification is supplied in the bare wire form and usually in cut straight lengths. Number designations following the letter “R” represent the minimum tensile strength in KSI (i.e., 1,000 psi). Although OFW was one of the first welding processes used for joining metals, OFW has limited usage in the manufacture of pressure vessels to the B&PV Code.
