Flat
position (1G)
The test plates are placed in an approximately
horizontal plane and the weld metal deposited from the upper side
Horizontal
position (2G)
The test plates are placed in an approximately
vertical plane with the welding groove approximately horizontal
Vertical
position (3G)
The test plates are placed in an approximately
vertical plane with the welding groove approximately vertical
Overhead
position (4G)
The test plates are placed in an approximately
horizontal plane and the weld metal deposited from the underside
Horizontal
rolled (1G)
The pipe is placed with its axis in an approximately
horizontal plane with the welding groove in an approximately vertical plane and
the pipe is rolled during welding
Vertical
(2G)
The pipe is placed with its axis in an approximately
vertical position with the welding groove in an approximately horizontal plane
Horizontal
fixed (5G)
The pipe is placed with its axis in an approximately
horizontal plane with the welding groove in an approximately vertical plane and
the pipe is not to be rolled or turned during welding
Inclined
fixed (6G)
The pipe is inclined fixed (45Deg. plus or Minus 5
Deg.) and not rotating during welding
For
fillet welds in plates, different positions are defined as below
Flat
position (1F)
The test plates are so placed that each fillet weld
is deposited with its axis approximately horizontal and its throat approximately
vertical
Horizontal
position (2F)
The test plates are so placed that each fillet weld
is deposited on the upper side of the horizontal surface and against the
vertical surface
Vertical
position (3F)
Each fillet weld is made vertically
Overhead
position (4F)
The test plates are so placed that each fillet weld
is deposited on the underside of the horizontal surface and against the
vertical surface
